I love my job. I'm lead programmer for Action-Ed, and I spend me time working on Civic Mirror, an videogame that is so much more than a videogame: A simulation in which high school classes become countries and have to work out their constitution, laws, political parties and elections all while providing for their families and wheeling and dealing in their country's economy.

Since Ellison's birth, I've only managed to blog once. This is representative of my reflections on life generally, or rather the lack thereof: I've spent most of the last year and a bit drinking from the most marvelous firehose of opportunity and experience I've ever encountered. Work, Family, Community, any one of these could take up every waking moment.

Baby Books

For the first of hopefully many little posts about the birth and raising of our son Ellison, I thought I'd list a few of the books that we've been finding great.

In Memoriam

With the fifth anniversary of Julian's death just passed, I thought I'd share my eulogy from his funeral. Julian: You are missed, you are loved, you are remembered.

My legs were screaming "why are you doing this to us?", and my ego was going through the equivalent of a market correction.

Knowledge

What follows is primarily a somewhat edited version of my journal entry after my 'enforced hangout' waiting for CAA to arrive and unlock my car.

From April 16th-18th I had the good fortune to work with an amazing team on the development of a Pattern Language for group dynamics. I'll be writing more about that soon, but for the moment, I'll relay what came afterwards.

On the Sunday evening, just as we were wrapping up the work portion of the weekend, I found myself feeling a little off so went to bed early. Even as I went, my legs were beginning to shake, but by the time I was lying down, my whole body was shaking, and I was alternating between being frozen through to overheating.

On a day that has been thoroughly filled with an assortment of Awesome, it's funny at first glance that the highlight was locking my keys in my car.

Patanjali 1:6

These five kinds of thought-waves are: right knowledge, wrong knowledge, verbal delusion, sleep and memory.

Patanjali 1:5

There are five kinds of thought-waves – some painful, others not painful.

At other times, when he is not in the state of yoga, man remains identified with the thought-waves in the mind.

For a little over 10 years the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali have been a fairly core part of my spiritual practice.
